Industry
Food, pharma and cosmetics
Food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics plants deal with raw-material dust and cooking vapours, in an environment that requires hygiene and documentation. GAKO schedules installation and maintenance around the production plan, so that the work interrupts the line as little as possible.

The challenge
What sets this sector apart
- Organic dust and raw-material powders, some of which may be combustible
- Vapours, grease and heat from cooking, frying and baking lines
- Hygiene requirements: components that are easy to clean, and prevention of cross-contamination
- Shift work and coordination with the production plan

Solutions
Extraction at weighing and dosing stations
Hoods and extraction points near bag tipping and mixers, so that dust does not spread through the hall.
Dust collectors
Filters selected by dust type. Where there is a combustible dust risk, the design is based on the plant's hazard analysis.
Cooking-line exhaust
Hoods, ducts and fans for cooking, frying and baking lines, including periodic grease cleaning.
Staff kitchen
Exhaust system cleaning and the fire-authority sign-off (Form 16).
Frequently asked questions
How do we know if the dust in our plant is combustible?
Through laboratory testing of the dust and a dust hazard analysis (DHA). This is carried out by the plant and its safety consultant, and our design is built on the results.
When should dust collector filters be replaced?
Replacement is based on the differential pressure measured across the filters and on the manufacturer's instructions. See the filter guide.
